IMS-BHU to launch website for headache patients

Those who find it lot easier to pop up a pain killer than to visit a doctor to seek proper medication for the headache that off late has become frequent considering the stressful life style one is leading, can heave a sigh of relief as with a click of mouse, they can now meet experts of neuro-science, who will guide them.

VARANASI: Those who find it lot easier to pop up a pain killer than to visit a doctor to seek proper medication for the headache that off late has become frequent considering the stressful life style one is leading, can heave a sigh of relief as with a click of mouse, they can now meet experts of neuro-science, who will guide them. The department of neurology, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu university is all set to launch an interactive website called www.kapardard.com dedicated to headache and its treatment through specific problem consultation.

At present, the website is bilingual. It is in Hindi and English but soon the department is planning to make it available in seven additional languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati and Sanskrit. People from anywhere, with a headache problem can log on to this website to create a free account by providing their name, e-mail, phone number. After this, they can type in the designated box the question pertaining to their problem.
According to the head of neurology department, IMS, BHU, Dr VN Mishra, the brain behind the website, it aims at providing advise to take control over the headache problem that seems to be normal but hamper the quality of daily life of a person as it forces one to withdraw from certain activities, apart from obvious side effects of frequent consumption of pain killers. "Also, sometimes the headache can be a symptom of a more serious problem. So right counselling and prescription can save a lot of time and money and also the side effects of the pain-killers that are used commonly," said Dr Mishra. Based on studies of commonly found symptoms of the headache, a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) section has been prepared by the doctors of the department. "The questions asked by people will be replied within 48 hours. And if the experts feel that the person with a particular problem needs to visit a physician or an expert, a list of doctors in that area will be emailed to the person. But this list of doctors will be extended within India only," Mishra said.
The website will be launched on Monday.
